This Fibonacci T-shirt is a tribute to Leonardo of Pisa -- Fibonacci -- known for his sequence of numbers called "the Fibonacci numbers" introduced to Western European mathematicians in 1202. The mathematical sequence begins with two predetermined numbers and each subsequent number is the sum of the two previous numbers -- 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 and so on.
Geometrically, adjoining quadrant arcs with radii of each sequential Fibonacci number produce a beautiful spiral form common in nature such as the arrangement of seeds on sunflowers, the chambers of conch shells, pine cones and more.
Furthermore, adjacent Fibonacci numbers, when divided tend to the ratio known as the "golden mean", an irrational number representing proportion again common in nature and admired in art and music. Think of the proportions of the Parthenon and Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian man.
Fibonacci was also known for his popularization in the West of the so-called Arabic numerals we use today. A must have for any math, science or engineering buff. Almost as cool as the number pi itself, and you know how much we love our irrational numbers!
