Easy to follow instructions. Easy to identify parts. Easy assembly. Great fun building together with my son. Great excitement powering up the lizard and watching it chase or retreat. Great product OWI. Thank you.

It was very independent, which made it easier to not pay attention to a controller. And helped get out of crashes. Intelligent. Finicky (legs don't always move.) . Sometimes takes two flicks of switch. It is fast compared to other robots. Looks realistic. Easy to build (looks impossible, but works pretty fine.) . Recommend it. (Review by Oscar, age 6).

I bought this for my 11-year-old grandson. He really enjoyed putting it together. I worried as I read reviews that said the pieces would break easily but I told him to be extra careful and he had no problems. He put it together with no help. I did end up spending about $45 additional as he didn't have the tools, so not only did he get the dragon, he got a tool bag with the tools necessary to start up his independent life when he moves out of his parent's home!

My son received this as part of the Amazon Stem Club. Which is an amazing deal if you haven't tried it!! With the help of my husband it was assembled in a couple hours, and when they went to use it they realized they had a part on backwards and still have not fixed it. But I'm sure If you follow instructions it will go together just fine! It has a motion sensor so the kids did get to play a little bit and had a lot of fun.

Easy to follow instructions. The axel for the wheels is too short so the wheel caps won't snap on and keep falling off, making it not so much fun to play with. But fun to assemble, so it's good for a few day project but then just sits because its annoying to fix every time it runs.

This is a cool kit, however, my daughter and husband had to drill down all of the pieces to make them fit. Which is not an issue in and of itself, the issue and reason for just 4 stars and not 5 stars, is that my husband had to drill down a piece that was hindering the casing to the motor to close. My daughter could drill/file down the other pieces but she could not do the motor casing. And for a child that is excited to get her STEM kit every month, it is torture to have her have to wait for her father to stop what he is doing, get out his equipment, and then help her. So, as of today it is on day 2 of sitting on our game table waiting on him to drill it down and that equipment is still in the garage. :(

Had super fun building it. A bit challenging for 8 year old, so I helped. But the best part was the play part after all assembly was done. They have done a really good job making this toy so realistic, surprising and interactive once it's fully assembled. So basically you get 2 toys in 1. First the building part is great. The gears and all the small parts are great quality. Secondly, it is a full fledged toy to play with once it's all assembled, and it has better interaction and play than many (much more expensive) toys.Loved it.

We bought this for our 10 yr old daughter. We are not impressed. Comes completely dismantled. And has a lot of tiny pieces. My husband had to put it together and it took him a good 3 hrs. Once it was together all it does is puff up and flash red eyes at you if you're near it. It's loud. And only rolls around on hard floors (not carpet).

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He put it together very carefully but it wasn't that hard to assemble. He has enjoyed putting through its paces so much that he wants to look into other robots from the same company!

?This was an amazing gift! My 9 year old son loves this so much!! It needs an adult to help put it together but it worked perfectly right away. Be sure to look at the directions carefully. You will not be disappointed!

Whoever engineered this is brilliant! Manufacture is also well done. No doubt you have to be careful, it's mostly plastic. But the parts fit very well together. I used a high quality pair of small wire cutters to remove pieces as needed, and had no problems with burrs. You also need a small Philips screwdriver for about 4 screws, and a small hammer near final assembly. Instructions are fairly easy to understand, but it still took my daughter(10) and I four hours to build. If you make a mistake its hard to go back back, so it's best to go slow and do it correctly the first time. (I made a mistake using a medium axle instead of long, therefore had to disassemble and correct it. The parts fit so well together, disassembly is not easy, so be careful.) I admit I did most of the building. My daughter loves the little guy. I do too. Very well designed, well manufactured, great price at $30. Its the 2nd day and he's holding up nicely. Respect that its plastic, don't give it to a 5 year old, and be gentle, it should last a while. I'm impressed and will be looking at otherOWI products in the future. It's refreshing to see quality in and age of poorly made crap. High Five!

Neat item! Not hard to build at all, just time consuming! As far as tools, you'll need a smaller phillips screwdriver, sharp knife or fine scissors (used to get burrs off of parts), and a hammer (used on 1 item).Bought for 7yr old son, so i ended up building. He loves it. As far as reliability... only have had it 1 day. Will update if it breaks early.

This is a delight for young and old! We got this as a Christmas present a while ago. He was just sitting in the closet until this weekend when I was feeling like a challenge. It's not an easy build. Highly detailed and cutting out the parts gets a little tedious. Take your time and build it slowly. Make sure all the parts are right or it won't work right. I had to take it half apart and tighten up the gear and drive shaft for the front legs. They weren't working. But having put it together, I understood how to fix it. Kind of fun knowing that! The play is wonderful. He senses where you are and will either attack or flee. The first time he came at me, I jumped! Very cute toy. I highly recommend it!

My husband and our grandson started building it right away. We didn't realize when we bought it, that we would need so many tools. My son-in-law will take over now, because we had to come home. They live 5 hours away from us.

Seemed to work great for my nephew, however it seems some of the internal gears are too fragile and since one of them slipped or wore down inside it, he robot has limited abilities now. Perhaps just be careful when assembling to ensure proper calibration and avoid slipping gears.

My nine-year old son loved putting this together and has enjoyed playing with it and showing it to all our friends and family. Once the dragon is put together, it "acts" like a real animal, backing up when it senses something and running away when it's "scared". My son was able to build it without help, except for a few tiny screws that he asked his dad to install.

I (mom) put this together with my 10 (just shy of 11) year old son. It took several hours, but son was engaged and not bored or frustrated during the entire project (we only took one break during assembly). It was a lot of fun to put together in an afternoon and definitely seems built to last if you take the time to carefully put it together according to the instructions. I recommend having the adult use a razor or craft knife to shave any remaining plastic nubbins from the parts (as recommended in the instructions) after child pops them out of the packing materials. The end result is smooth and all parts fit together perfectly. There are a few tricky parts in the instructions that I would definitely not trust my son to have done correctly without my help (e.g., several small parts that look the same, but aren't, and aligning parts properly prior to joining them, etc.) Both play modes work as expected and it is really a cute toy. It also comes with an extra frill in case that needs to be replaced over time, which is a nice feature. Added bonus: the finished toy fits back in the box for storage after assembly.

My son is in 3rd grade and had a project for school to do on the frilled lizard. I found this one and asked the teacher if he could do it. She said yes as long as it's not something simple to put together. Boy was it not simple. My husband had to sit with him and work on it for about 2 hours. Once they got it working it was sooo cool.I believe it says 10+ is the age. I would say more like 14+. My son is 9 and I don't think he could have done this on his own and he does 14+ Lego's with no problem.it has a sensor on the face that when it detects anything it will stop and throw its frill out just like the real one. It then backs up and goes another direction.Needless to say his project was the hit of the class.

This lizard was excellent fun! It took my 8 year old son and 1 about 2 hours to build it. The tail hung up a bit on the back, which stopped it from moving forward. But, with a bit of trimming it worked perfect! Great lesson in engineering in that - if it doesn't work, try and tweak it a bit!

I had such a great time building this kit. It's been a long time since I've felt actual delight making something with my hands. I bought this kit primarily to entertain my two French Bulldogs, and it's great for that - as long as they don't get a hold of it, but it really brought back the joy of making things. When I was a kid I had a lot of electronics kits, model rockets, Heathkits, etc., and I'd forgotten how much fun model building could be. This kit took a couple of hours over a few evenings to complete. The plastic parts are held in frames like plastic model kits, but there's no gluing involved. I was very impressed by the design of the kit, with two electric motors, a circuit board and numerous gears. If you've got kids you'd like to get started on an engineering or science career, this kit is for you. Or, if you're like me, a 50-something engineer who needs to play more often, get this kit for yourself. Also good for lethargic cats.

10 Year old LOVES this! It was a bit complicated for her to do on her own, but it made a great project for her to do with Daddy. She loves the frill function especially. My only complaints being the noise (quite loud mechanisms when in motion) and it doesn't work overly well on carpeting. If you have hardwoods or low pile carpet it should work perfectly fine though. The sensor works well to keep it from running into things going forward but the backup function does allow it to back into things before stopping. It doesn't do this with enough force to damage anything but beware of precariously balanced valuables.

It was a little more complicated then anticipated but does present a good challenge. If I keep my grandsons face out of his ipad eventually he will complete building it. He expected it to be as easy as legos. Surprise. But fun.

I bought this for my 12 year old son who took a robotics course at his school. He and his dad put it together in about three hours. The kit does require adult supervision since there is a lot of small parts, some cutting using either an utility knife or finer blade, and if you do not follow instructions carefully, it is difficult to fix mistakes. If you push too hard, pieces can break-- which happened to one of our parts, but we were able to glue it back together with super glue. The robot lizard is larger than I thought it was going to be and it does exactly what is expected to do...if you assemble it correctly. The eyes light up and when the sensors are triggered, it either retreats or puts up the frill and charges forward. There is a switch on the top that controls which mode it is and if it is on or off. The robot works best on a flat smooth surface and so far it's been held up to being handled by my other children who are younger than my 12 year old. I highly recommend this product if your child is interested in learning how robots/toys work!

Cute robot lizard. Definitely looked like the picture. It took a while to put together but instructions were good. After put together the functionality on the lizard as he moves forward and backwards isn't the best. Okay but not the best. Definitely worth it for the money paid though!

I had to put this together since it was for a younger child and surprisingly I actually enjoyed building it! It was amazing to see something you put together come to life, but watching the happiness on my son's face when he saw it in action was even better! He loves his "little lizard" and can control him very easily; it's a fun toy to watch and play with.

I just built this with my 10 year old son, and we were both really pleased with the whole process and the result. The kit is very, very well made. All the parts are sturdy and fit together perfectly. The instructions are very clear. I would mention, however, that this is a difficult model to build and even my 10 year old did require help from me to do it. And it is a VERY meticulous model. If you do not like tiny parts and exacting directions, that this is not for you. But if you do, then you will be rewarded with a great experience. And the best part is, after you have the fun of building it, it is really fun to play with! It operates very well, just as described.

My mother in law purchased this for my son for Christmas. We love it. The directions were clear and easy to follow, the pieces are well made and very clearly labeled. Obviously a LOT of care and thought went into the production of this toy. It is rated ages 10 +, and that is probably about right, though a younger child with experience in building models could easily follow the directions. After assembly ( approximately 3 hours if uninterrupted) the toy operates exactly as described. My children ( 5 years and 7 years) have been playing with their "pet lizard" all afternoon.

I rarely post reviews for items but this product was really cool. My 8 year old put it together with her dad and it helped her learn how to read and follow directions. Once the dragon was put together the two modes and the ai was really neat to play with. I wish there were more building products like this!
