One day at work, I was in a meeting with some of my team and I used Etch A Sketch as an example for explaining something. Half of the people in the room had no idea what I was talking about. Turns out that this just wasn't a thing in the country where these guys are from and they'd never seen one.I didn't want to get a full sized one just to show them what it was, so I grabbed this pocket one as a gift for one of the guys. He was over the moon, and a few of them sat in a room examining it, asking how long the batteries lasted and it was a very hard sell to convince them that these don't need power to run. This lead to research into how they actually worked and a lot of learning for the whole team.Back story aside, this is very portable and still has the full Etch A Sketch functionality. Obviously there's not really been any compromise to how it functions to make it so small. Corners and turns are still super smooth. Still accurate rendering on the panel. And I've since heard back that this colleague has been giving it to his kids as a toy (which they love) and it's still functioning and unbroken, so defiantly built to last like the original ones.

I have been searching for the pocket etch a sketch at multiple stores, browsing the aisles with diminishing hope and leaving empty handed. Even the Ohio Art official store site did not carry them. I was overwhelmed with joy when I came across the true original pocket etch a sketch, which has the Ohio Art logo and the word "pocket" written on the etch a sketch itself as indicated by the picture used to advertise this product on Amazon. I ordered 3 but wanted more. The package arrived promptly, and I opened it immediately. Oh great disappointment! I found inside the box 3 versions of the new pocket etch a sketch ( which are easy to find in several stores). This new version of the toy is slightly smaller than the original pocket etch a sketch; it does not bear the logo nor does it have the word "pocket" on it.I feel duped by the false advertisement and further frustrated that I can not locate my favorite toy/ art medium. I will be returning this purchase and will be extra cautious and more reluctant to purchase an etch a sketch when buying online in the future.Very dissatisfied,Erin

To be honest, the advantage of having a small, light etchasketch is somewhat offset by having a limited drawing space and hence requiring an even more retentive approach to twisting and turning the nobs if you want to produce something recognisable. This works well as temporary diversion but would probably not satisfy the etchasketch aficionado unless they were craving a challenge, or needed to travel very light.

I'm an Etch A Sketch enthusiast (stop laughing). "Pocket" used to be my favorite size, but as of around September 2012 the design has gotten smaller. Instead of 4.25" x 3.75" (2.75" x 2" drawing area), it is now 3.75" by 3.25" (2.25" x 1.5" drawing area). This makes it far less usable and doesn't really make it any more portable, since it's still 1.5" thick. I'm really, really unhappy with this change, but I suppose that's mostly my preference. I will probably need to use "travel" size now.The main problem is that the current image and dimensions on the product page here are misleading. I'll try to add a picture showing the relative sizes. It is worth noting that drawing and erasing seem to work just fine.

I used to keep extra crayons and coloring books on hand as gifts, and sometimes just stress relievers. The Pocket Etch A Sketch is one of my new items to keep on hand. Recently, I have given this fun item to more adults than children. It is a great stress reliever. I have purchased these as graduation gifts for two of my classmates for our upcoming leadership graduation class. A friend recently celebrated his 50th birthday. Since he is an architect, I labeled his gift "50+ Drafting/Drawing Tool." I am currently making a basket of retro type toys for a family. The basket has a few Pocket Etch A Sketches included. Pocket Etch A Sketch makes a good stocking stuffer too!

I bought this to play with with my 18 month old daughter because she loves the magnadoodle. I of course realize that this is something she'd need to grow into, but thought it would be fun for me in the meantime. The lines are very faint and don't erase very well. I remember the larger version from my childhood being a much better quality. It might just be the size that's the issue.
